Certified Health Information Management (HIM) Professional Exam
Please read the following carefully before you proceed to write the exam.
- This exam has been designed to measure your knowledge of the seven competencies required of certified HIM Professionals in Canada. These competencies include:
- Biomedical Sciences
- Health Information Science (including coding theory)
- Health Information Analysis and Presentation
- Technology and Health Information
- Access and Security
- Healthcare System in Canada
- Ethics and Practice
- The exam includes two parts. Each part is
divided into several pages.

You have a total of three and a half (3.5) hours to write the entire exam and should therefore plan your time accordingly to ensure you have enough time to answer each part of the exam.
It is suggested that you pass over any difficult questions and return to them later if you have time (on the same Page only). Please note: once you have submitted any page of the exam, you cannot return to it.
A half hour break is recommended between Part
A & Part B. However, the invigilator can decide to shorten the break.

examination will be presented in two parts covering seven content areas. The
content areas will be grouped, for purposes of calculating sectional pass marks,
as follows:

To pass the examination, candidates must obtain a minimum grade of 50% on
each section and an overall minimum grade of 60% on the entire examination.

The exam score will be the total of correct answers. You do not lose marks for wrong answers.

The candidate and the invigilator must be present at the same time
to start both parts of the exam.

The candidate must enter his/her candidate number provided on
his/her admission form.

The invigilator must then enter his/her code.
