Advanced Assessment and Treatment of Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD/ADHD)

Presenter Biography:  

Thomas E. Brown, PhD

Dr. Brown is a clinical psychologist who received his Ph.D. from Yale University and maintains a private practice in Hamden, CT. specializing in assessment and treatment of high-IQ children, adolescents and adults with ADD and related problems. He is an Asst. Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine and is Associate Director of the Yale Clinic for Attention and Related Disorders.

Dr. Brown has presented papers, workshops and symposia at national meetings of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, National Assn. of School Psychologists, International Neuropsychological Society, the National Attention Deficit Disorder Association and CHADD. He has also presented workshops at international meetings of professionals in Argentina, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Venezuela.

For his research and teaching about ADHD Dr. Brown received awards of honor from the National Attention Deficit Disorder Assn, the HELP Group at UCLA, the University of Western Australia, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been inducted into the CHADD Hall of Fame for outstanding contributions to research and professional education about ADHD in children and adults.

Dr. Brown’s research interests and publications include assessment and treatment of ADDs, especially those without hyperactivity; executive function and memory impairments in ADDs; overlap of ADDs and learning disorders, use of combined medications for ADD comorbidities, and problems of sleep and awakening in ADDs.

He has served on the Professional Advisory Board for national CHADD and for the National Attention Deficit Disorder Association. He has published articles in professional journals and is author of the Brown Attention Deficit Disorder Scales for Children, Adolescents and Adults published by The Psychological Corporation. He is editor of Attention Deficit Disorders and Comorbidities in Children, Adolescents and Adults, a major text and reference work also published in Spanish. His book, Attention Deficit Disorder: The Unfocused Mind in Children and Adults, written for the general public, is published in English by Yale University Press and in Spanish by Masson.
